Borden & District Threshermen's Society

The Borden & District Threshermen’s Society Inc. is a volunteer-driven heritage organization dedicated to preserving and showcasing the rich agricultural history of Borden and the surrounding district. For more than 25 years, the Society has proudly brought farming of the past to life, celebrating the tools, skills, and community spirit that shaped prairie living.

A Day of History in Action

Each year, on the last Saturday of September, volunteers host a full-day heritage event held approximately three miles north of Borden. The day features hands-on demonstrations including:

  • Horse-drawn plowing and discing

  • Operating a vintage binder to create wheat sheaves

  • Threshing grain using steam- or tractor-powered threshing machines

Visitors can also enjoy displays of vintage stationary engines, tractors, and classic vehicles, all lovingly maintained and demonstrated by passionate volunteers.

Authentic Prairie Experience

An original cook car, once used locally to feed threshing crews, is still in operation for the event. Lunch is prepared on site and includes traditional fare such as borscht soup, vegetable soup, fresh bread, jam, coffee, and juice, offering an authentic taste of prairie history.

Community & Participation

The annual event draws approximately 400–500 spectators each year for a memorable day of living history. Visitors who wish to participate or volunteer are always welcome and encouraged to get involved.

The day concludes with a roast beef supper at the Borden Community Hall, hosted by members of the Borden Museum alongside dedicated volunteers—bringing the community together to wrap up a full day of heritage and fellowship.
