St. Johns Anglican

St. John’s Anglican Church has been part of the Borden community for more than a century, with roots dating back to 1905. Originally established within the Diocese of Saskatchewan as part of the Parish of Radisson, early services were held in the pioneer church in Borden as well as at Halcyonia and Thistledale Schools, reflecting the determination and faith of the area’s early settlers.

As roads improved and travel became easier, worship services were gradually centralized in Borden during the 1950s. The present church building, constructed in 1963, continues to serve as a welcoming and enduring place of worship.

A new bell was installed at St. John's Borden in 2025.  The bell was cast in Rome, New York for the parish of All Saints Radisson in 1912.  When that church deconsecrated Cyril Saunders brought the bell to St. John's but the belfry was too small.  After waiting in Cyril's shop for several years, the parish of St. Augustin's in Rosthern needed the bell so it was installed there.  When that church deconsecrated Cyril Saunders and a group of people including Lucas Saunders and Mel Brooke removed the bell and it spent some time in Cyril's shop until Cyril and his family and friends were able to mount the bell in its present location at St. John's churchyard.  It was blessed in its new location by the Right Rev. Bishop Chad McCharles on October 19, 2025.

Today, St. John’s is a congregation of the Diocese of Saskatoon and remains the Anglican presence in Borden. The church offers regular Sunday worship, with Morning Prayer or Holy Communion held at 10:30 a.m., and welcomes residents and visitors alike.
